Overview

“Order begins with measure. The breath of Solivar marks the hour;

the grace of Tasserin defines the day; the fleeting path of Cassanda reminds us to act before memory fades.”

Archivist High-Canon Solven Marr, Prologue to the Calendar Concordic

The Concordic Calendar is the universal reckoning of time across the civilized states of Velthuryn.

Where ancient tribes once counted by moons or storms, the Concord binds all to a single rhythm of Solivar’s pulse, a rhythm both practical and spiritual, balancing daylight’s reason and the night’s reflection.

It divides the 428-day solar year into ten Cycles of 43 days each, further divided into ten-day Spans.

Every tenth Span concludes with the Sister’s Embrace, when Tasserin and Cassanda cross paths in the sky, a symbol of unity between knowledge and instinct, law and passion.

Structure

Measure Term Duration Astronomical Correlate
Day Longbright 36 hours (18 longbright, 18 deepglow) One rotation of Velthuryn
Span Ten-day week 10 Longbrights Cassanda’s full orbit (~6 days) + twilight variance
Cycle Month equivalent 43 Longbrights One orbit of Tasserin
Year The Concordic Year 10 Cycles (≈ 428 days) One orbit of Velthuryn around Solivar

Each day is divided by clocktowers and heliograph mirrors into six Turns of six hours each:

  1. Aurenset – First light through Solivar’s rise
  2. Highflame – Peak of the longbright, work and trade
  3. Tidefall – Late light, time of travel
  4. Violetwane – Sunset and prayer hour
  5. Deepglow – Moonlight and reflection
  6. Hollowturn – True night, rest and dreams

The Ten Cycles of Solivar’s Path

Cycle Common Name Seasonal Phase Symbol Common Festivals and Customs
I. Seedwake Early Spring Renewal, thaw, beginnings 🌱 Sprout-glyph First Planting, Oath of the New Scroll, archivists inscribe new ledgers; farmers plant griefglass seeds.
II. Brightcrest Late Spring Blossoming and ambition ☀️ Rising sun Festival of Ten Thousand Mirrors, Sunlash Coast launches flotillas to catch Solivar’s first full reflection.
III. Emberrise Early Summer Forge heat and labor 🔥 Flame spiral Forge-Bloom, Dwarves temper first embersteel blades; Lexharrow opens academic dueling season.
IV. Verdant Zenith High Summer Growth, art, and revelry 🌿 Twining leaves Moonpetal Revel, Thirasil’s canopy glows with bioluminescent petals; trade fairs bloom in Fleaspark.
V. Ashveil Late Summer Storms, travel, decision 🌩️ Storm rune Wind-Reading Day, pilots and rope-runners test new bridges before the Ashroads’ gales.
VI. Emberfall Autumn Harvest, endings 🍁 Falling spark Wander-Counting, families map the forest drift; students return from proof-wandering.
VII. Redember Late Autumn Memory, reflection 🪶 Red quill Remembrance Conflux, Gravenreach forges year’s verdict tablets; scholars renew citations.
VIII. Frostwane Early Winter Cold patience, endurance ❄️ Snow sigil Vigil of the Dormant Heart, villages fall silent for 36 hours, listening for the Elderseed’s pulse.
IX. Deepquiet Midwinter Stillness, mourning 🌑 Hollow moon Silence Vigil, all hammers cease for a day in Gravenreach; the Aethergrave hums low and violet.
X. Dawnthaw Late Winter Rebirth, optimism 🌅 Rising Solivar Renewal Concord, cities reopen archives, and children born this week are considered “first-light” souls.

The Ten Days of the Span

Every Cycle is divided into ten Days of Purpose, each reflecting the world’s balance of craft, commerce, and contemplation.

Common citizens abbreviate these to a single glyph on ledgers or banners.

Day Glyph Domain Typical Activities
1. Solisday Civic, government, guild courts Decrees, trade rulings, taxes due
2. Ferrenday ⚒️ Labor and creation Smithing, building, crafting
3. Tassar-day 🌕 Law and scholarship Canon readings, celestial observations
4. Cassan-day 🌗 Travel and trade Caravans depart, markets swell
5. Velth-day 🌀 Rest and recreation Music, sport, weddings
6. Mirrenday ✒️ Learning and artistry Universities hold disputations
7. Aurinday 🔆 Festivals, celebration Public theatre, civic games
8. Duskraday 🌒 Reflection and prayer Temples open for penance and divination
9. Gravenday ⛏️ Oaths and industry Forges fire, miners bless their shafts
10. Hollisday ⚜️ Renewal and silence Records sealed, ledgers balanced; most rest before next Span

Astronomical Markers

The Sister’s Embrace

Occurs twice per year, when Tasserin and Cassanda overlap in Solivar’s afterglow.

Light ripples violet and gold across the Bangrave Sea; shadows appear double and alive.

It marks:

  • The Mid-Year Alignment (between Cycles V and VI)
  • The Year’s End Convergence (between Cycles X and I)

During the Embrace:

  • Magical resonance intensifies.
  • Contracts sealed under the double moon are considered “twice bound.”
  • Timepieces and heliographs across Lexharrow reset their calibration.

Mirror Tides

When Cassanda passes beneath Tasserin, reflected light from both moons creates an oceanic shimmer so bright sailors can read by it.

In Fleaspark and Sunlash, mirror-tide weeks are prime for navigation.

Hollow Hours

1–2 nights per year when both moons vanish from the sky.

Considered perilous and sacred; the Concord forbids legal judgments during these nights, for “truth hides its reflection.”
