Oath-Silence is a curse that falls on those who break vows during the Wind-Oath Trials or other sacred rites of the Ohlai Steppe. The offender's voice turns to a thin whistle for three days.
Only sincere confession to a Sky-Reader and an offering to the wind can restore speech. Some chronic liars bear permanent cracks in their voices, a reminder that the Breath listens.
